Recruiting, Preparing, and Supporting Physics Teachers with UTeach Dallas
COFFEE_KLATCH · Invited
Abstract
UTeach Dallas at the University of Texas at Dallas is one of the first cohort of UTeach replication sites and exists within ecosystem of programs for teachers and educational outreach in the Department of Science/Mathematics Education (SME) in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The program has had success overall in retention of graduates in the teaching profession, and despite not specifically targeted physics majors in recruitment has produced 9 physics degree holders with teacher certification since 2014, including two beginning as post-bacs, and currently has 11 physics majors in the pipeline. The synergistic overlap of UTeach Dallas with other SME programs supporting physics education will be discussed.
