Confirming the Variability of White Dwarf Star GD 393 Through Multi-Aperture Photometry
ORAL
Abstract
ZZ Ceti white dwarf stars are a type of variable white dwarf that change in flux as a result of waves pulsating along the star's surface. NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) identified the white dwarf GD 393 as a potential ZZ Ceti white dwarf. This object was observed using the Texas A&M University-Commerce telescope in order to determine its variability. The data on the object was reduced and analyzed in order to search for changes in its relative flux using multi-aperture photometry, and a Fourier transform was calculated in order to search for relevant frequencies in the fluctuations. Although some observation nights were discarded due to bad data collection, the data that was used was sufficient to confirm variability, as well as pulsation. Further observation will be required in order to confirm the findings.
