An Introduction to String Theory Swampland

ORAL

Abstract

The aim of this talk is to develop an understanding to able to ask a very crucial question: are there any low energy effective field theories which appear perfectly self consistent within the usual rules of QFT but yet cannot be in the landscape of String theory and therefore further explore a new area where theories which are not consistent with string theory lie. In quantum gravity, this is termed as String Theory Swampland. we begin with an understanding of inflation with the help of string theory, by reviewing the standard inflationary model, where we will discuss how it tackles the shortcomings of the hot big bang. We then briefly talk about the classical bosonic string and it's spectrum. We then discuss how inflation is embedded in string theory with the help of D-branes. Finally we will be introducing the string swampland and will describe the swampland distance conjecture and the weak gravity conjecture.
