A Student Research Project in Radio Astronomy with SETI

ORAL

Abstract

In partnership with the SETI Institute’s ARISE project, we report on the development of a signal processing system to detect periodic signals in astronomical data. Using a single 20ft radio telescope of the Allen Telescope Array, we will develop GNU Radio flowgraphs and Python code to perform rapid phase-folding and de-dispersion of radio data, aiming to successfully detect the weak periodic from pulsars. This signal processing system will be utilized in a future ARISE lab centered on time-series data analysis in SETI and radio astronomy. Here, we present preliminary results of this ongoing project, as well as give an overview of ARISE and SETI.
