Probing Neutrino Mass Models with Tau Appearance at IceCube

ORAL

Abstract

Neutrino mixing parameters receive quantum corrections and thus evolve with energy. A mismatch between the mixing parameters at the production and detection scales would produce measurable effects in flavor transitions. We investigate two ultraviolet-complete models of neutrino mass that predict observable running of the mixing matrix. We evaluate IceCube's sensitivity to this effect, focusing on TeV-scale muon-to-tau oscillations that are strongly suppressed in the standard framework. Observation of tau appearance from an initial muon neutrino flux would provide a clear signature of a running mixing matrix.
