Patterns and metastable states in the hysteretic behaviour of Kuramoto oscillators on simplices

ORAL

Abstract

We study the collective behavior and transition to synchronization of ensembles of Kuramoto oscillators based on simplicial structures. The oscillators exhibit hysteretic behaviour and abrupt transitions to synchronisation. The hysteresis loops show signatures of metastable states which are linked to distinctive patterns, such as splay states and clustered states. We examine the link between the metastable states and the patterns via the study of small simplicial complexes. The number of nodes, links and triangles shared between adjacent simplices controls the nature of the patterns and bifurcations seen. Our results are supported by the eigen-value analysis of these structures.
