Women in Science from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Egyptian Archaeology

ORAL

Abstract

This talk will focus on women in archaeology. The subject will explore the contributions of women from the earliest named physician in ancient Egypt to the roles and experiences of women in archaeological research and practice. Celebrating the stories of impactful women scientists to encourage future generations and empower more women in science, I will rely on my own professional experiences to explore scientific applications that can develop the field of ancient Egyptian pottery. Despite the longtime of application of synchrotron radiation on archaeological pottery, it was not until the past quarter of a century that a coherent body of scholars first collaborated on this topic. This talk will highlight applications, such as the analysis of slips and mineralogical and elemental characterization of pottery through potential involvement at SESAME
