Quantum chaos and quasiparticles in an interacting Kitaev chain

Abstract

Quantum chaos plays a crucial role in understanding complex dynamic properties of quantum many-body systems via ergodicity. Likewise, the physical properties, such as the conductivity of many such systems, can be explained with quasiparticles. While it is understood that a maximally chaotic model, for instance, SYK, has no quasiparticles, the link between chaos, quasiparticles, and the breakdown of quasiparticles, remains largely unexplored. Moreover, probing this relationship is challenging analytically and computationally due to strong interactions. In this talk, I will present our recent progress in this direction by studying an interacting Kitaev chain. Furthermore, I will discuss the potential application of our work to studying quantum chaos on quantum processors.
