Variable capacitor power source intermittently recharges a battery powered temperature sensor system.

Abstract
Ambient energy harvesting may soon enable the powering of maintenance-free, self-sustaining sensors that last decades. This study investigates an innovative kinetic energy harvesting technique using variable capacitance to create a self-powered temperature sensor. We first characterize its performance, which shows a linear relationship between current, voltage, and frequency. We then compare its performance to a fixed capacitor configuration. Lately, we use our variable capacitor power source to recharge our battery powered ultralow power consuming custom temperature sensor system.
