On-chip Integration of Compact Purcell Filters with Superconducting Qubits

ORAL

Abstract

Purcell filters are crucial for simultaneously optimizing the lifetime and fast readout of superconducting qubits. These filters are commonly implemented with distributed elements, whose sizes are comparable to wavelengths, making on-chip integration for higher order filters more difficult. In contrast, we have designed and tested subwavelength lumped-element filters that are compatible with high-density multi-qubit devices. The lumped-element filters are fabricated using a modified niobium trilayer process developed at NIST; this process is also used for making Josephson parametric amplifiers at NIST. In this talk, I will discuss our efforts to make these Purcell filters compatible with coherent qubits on a single chip. The integrated filters, being physically closer to the qubit, facilitate better impedance matching allowing better control over the environment the qubit sees. The compact layout and the modular design of the lumped-element filters open paths for scaling up multi-qubit system architectures.
