Moiré magnetism in a bilayer ising model
ORAL
Abstract
We study the emergence of a moiré magnetic phase in a bilayer of stacked Ising ferromagnets using classical Monte Carlo methods. We introduce a relative deformation between the layers, either stretching or twisting one with respect to the other, to create a moiré pattern, and define a stacking dependent interlayer exchange. This leads to a “Domain Magnetic” ground state of antiferromagnetic domains on the moiré superlattice sites in a background of ferromagnetism for small deformations. We study the phase transition of this system between the paramagnetic, ferromagnetic, and domain magnetic phases as a function of temperature, interlayer coupling strength, and deformation parameter.
