Topological Protection at ν=9/11 : A hallmark of flux-six composite fermions
ORAL
Abstract
Fractional quantum Hall states can be accounted for by the formation of composite fermions carrying two and four flux quanta. States due to six flux quanta were predicted early on. However, such states were not observed until recently. In this talk, I will describe experiments that resulted in the observation of the first fractional quantum Hall state due to six flux composite fermions. This fractional quantum Hall state which develops at the filling factor v=9/11, possesses one of the most intricate quantum correlations. We will provide two wavefunction constructions, both of which involve six flux composite fermions, that can account for this fractional quantum Hall state within the framework of the composite fermion theory.
