ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Quantum computing holds the potential to address some of the world's most pressing challenges. At Google Quantum AI, our mission is to harness this potential to build quantum computing for otherwise unsolvable problems. Realizing this vision requires not only technological advancements, but also bridging the understanding and accessibility gap through effective communication and public engagement. This talk will explore the critical role of science communication in advancing quantum research and fostering an ecosystem that unlocks the revolutionary potential of quantum computing across key industries. We will examine the challenges of demystifying quantum concepts for diverse audiences—from the general public to policymakers and industry leaders—emphasizing the need for accessible and comprehensive quantum education. Public perception, industry awareness, and political support are pivotal in shaping the trajectory of quantum development and investment. Effective communication can empower stakeholders to critically evaluate claims, understand the technology's far-reaching implications, and drive responsible innovation. We will also discuss how global collaborations, such as the International Year of Quantum, can create a unified platform for accelerating progress in this transformative field.
