Ferroelectric field effect in 2D multiferroic heterostructures

ORAL

Abstract

We explore here the coupling of magnetic and electrical ferroic orders across 2D multiferroic heterostructure, advancing the manipulation of magnetism in 2D systems, a longstanding goal in spintronics. To this end a bilayer of out-of-plane 2D magent CrI3 and few-layer out-of-plane 2D ferroelectric CuInP2S6 are integrated into a vertical device by combination of two assembling processes: cryogenic pick-up and hot dry transfer technique. Bottom and top graphite contacts are used to provide the electrical control giving rise to an out-of-plane polarizing voltage along the easy electrical polarization axis of the ferroelectric material via field-effect, while magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE) signal has been used to access the response of the magnetic layer. Our preliminary results suggest the effective manipulation on magnetic anisotropy providing key insights into the tunable coupling between these ferroic orders, opening new pathways for 2D multiferroic devices and spintronic applications.
