Building Capacity for Quantum Science: UNESCO's Role in the IYQST

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQST) presents a transformative opportunity for UNESCO to advance foundational science and engineering capacity globally. In support of IYQST, UNESCO has intensified efforts to strengthen Member States' competencies in basic sciences, particularly quantum science, by focusing on robust educational infrastructure, capacity-building initiatives, and diverse partnerships. This talk will explore how UNESCO's strategic programs equip emerging scientists and engineers with the tools to engage in quantum research and development, with special emphasis on developing regions. Highlighting specific IYQST-aligned initiatives, such as STEM-focused training and gender-equitable opportunities, we will discuss how enhanced capacity in quantum science can drive sustainable technological progress and foster international collaboration to meet the evolving demands of the quantum era.
