Conformational Dynamics of Elastic Filament in Lamb-Oseen Vortex
ORAL
Abstract
Elastic filaments are key components in many complex fluids, yet their conformational dynamics remain insufficiently understood. This paper presents a study of a single elastic filament interacting with a surrounding fluid, modeled as a Lamb-Oseen vortex flow. The vortex induces variable fluid velocity with respect to its radial distance, influencing the filament's motion. We investigate the filament's dynamics across three distinct initial positions, each experiencing different vortex effects. The system's behavior is governed by various parameters, and both numerical simulations and theoretical modeling are employed to capture the filament's dynamics. After validating prior results from Ganga's work, we construct a regime plot illustrating the influence of specific governing parameters on filament shape. Furthermore, we explore the rectification of the filament's behavior under these conditions. Finally, we validate the numerical findings against the theoretical model, incorporating key assumptions.
