Space as the "Impossible Sea"… (As Coined by Matt Strassler) Is Possible Using Hierarchy of Energy Theory

POSTER

Abstract

Matt Strassler has written a book entitled, “Waves in an Impossible Sea”. In this book he lays out fundamental problems that have haunted physicists for over 100 years. Einstein stated that spacetime is like a luminiferous aether, but you can't measure whether you are moving through it or not. This statement must be true since it represents the postulate used to derive special relativity, that all inertial reference frames are equal. This means that within any reference frame, you cannot detect whether a reference frame is moving in spacetime. This postulate goes against our everyday intuition.

Prof Strassler delineates another irreconcilable problem saying that waves of space are light and light strongly interacts with matter, and yet the earth goes right through space without any drag. “How do you make these things compatible?”

Our theories and equation tell us that this is how the universe works, and yet there is no way to conceive of what the substance of space is, especially one that would satisfy these irreconcilable properties. Hence the impossible sea!

This poster offers as a solution a “sea” that is proposed in Hierarchy of Energy theory that successfully addresses Prof Strassler’s irreconcilable concerns of his impossible sea. Not only does it tell us what space is made of, but also confirms Strassler’s notion that the stuff “in” spacetime arises from spacetime. In essence, the impossible sea… is possible!
