Electronic properties of a Copper Phthalocyanine (CuPc) / Graphene / hBN heterostructure

Abstract

Metal Phthalocyanines (MPcs) are versatile macrocyclic planar aromatic molecules capable of admitting most transition metals into their structure, imparting them with a wide range of electric, magnetic, and optical properties. This flexibility, allowing for the fine tuning of material characteristics, makes MPcs highly valuable as a building block of van der Waals heterostructures. Here, we deposit copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) onto a graphene/hBN heterostructure to study CuPc’s molecular arrangement, the charge transfer mechanisms between graphene and CuPc, and CuPc’s ability to affect phase coherent transport in graphene. Specifically, we investigate how the adsorption of CuPc molecules affects weak localization and weak antilocalization phenomena in graphene.
