Scalable calibration of large superconducting quantum processors for high-performance operation

Abstract

Efficient and robust calibration is critical for the operation of quantum processing units as their qubit count and fidelity requirements increase. Here, we present results for scalable calibration of a 50-qubit superconducting quantum processor, and show that the duration of the calibration is almost constant with the number of qubits. We discuss the impact of drive and flux cross-talk on the fidelity of simultaneous single- and two-qubit gates on large quantum processors and consider different mitigation strategies. Finally, we verify our calibration approach by demonstrating over 99 % median CZ-fidelity on a 50-qubit processor.
