Traveling D-Cones on Curved-Crease Surfaces
ORAL
Abstract
Dynamics of developable cones (d-cones) along curved-crease surfaces have been found to play a central role in the remarkable nonaffine extension of Lacrymaria Olor (Flaum and Prakash, 2024). Here, these extension dynamics are characterized via local kinematic rules, simulations, and experiments across a wide range of elastic and geometric parameters. A scaling analysis of d-cone velocities is performed based on these results. Based on these results, a framework for the design of deployable tubular structures of preset curvature is outlined, with several examples given.
