Redox of metastable oxide thin films

Abstract

Topotactic transformations in complex oxides represent an effective strategy to synthesize metastable phases through soft chemistry. In heterostructures, the metastability is altered by the additional constraints placed on the material by the heterointerface. The tendency to evolve in oxidation or even revert back to the most stable oxidation state is a major challenge when characterizing and engineering these compounds.

I will present recent results on the redox behavior of strontium ferrite, a complex oxide with a broad array of metastable phases.
