De Haas-van Alphen oscillations in topological thin films α-Sn and BiSb
ORAL
Abstract
BiSb and α-Sn have been shown to host a number of interesting topological states. There is still a need, however, to have more detailed information about their Fermi surfaces and band structures. Here we report the observation of the de Haas-van Alphen effect using torque magnetometry in both thin films grown on InSb substrates. The challenge of a bulk measurement like torque magnetometry for a thin film is to distinguish contributions coming from the thin film and contributions coming from the substrate. Though these two materials were grown on the same substrate, the observed quantum oscillations have clear distinctions suggesting a signal from the thin film. The preliminary results suggest promise for torque magnetometry as a tool to elucidate these topological thin films.
