Abstract

In this talk, Mohammad Soltanieh-Ha will share insights into career paths, essential skills, and strategies for physicists looking to break into data science. Mohammad transitioned from academia to industry in 2015, leveraging his Ph.D. in computational condensed matter physics to build a career in data science. With experience both as a job seeker and someone involved in recruitment and team building, he brings a unique perspective on navigating the field. His work spans AI, macroeconomic forecasting, computer vision in healthcare, and LLMs. As the founding chair of APS's Topical Group on Data Science (GDS) and a Google Cloud Faculty Expert, Mohammad is actively involved in the future of data science education.
