Effects of dissipative junctional adhesion on confluent tissue viscoelasticity and dynamics
ORAL
Abstract
Cell migration is crucial in various physiological processes, such as embryonic development, wound healing, and cancer metastasis. Cell-cell adhesion has been shown to play a significant role in tissue dynamics by influencing the cell shape. However, the dissipative aspect of cell-cell adhesion has not been thoroughly studied. In this work, we investigate the impact of dissipative cell-cell adhesion on tissue dynamics and collective cell migration using a dissipative junctional vertex model. We highlight the competition between the tensional and dissipative aspects of cell-cell adhesion. While increasing tensional adhesion promotes cell migration by altering cell shape, increasing viscous adhesion can lead to jamming of the system. Furthermore, we demonstrate a direct relationship between viscous cell-cell adhesion and collective migration, confirming the key role of cell-cell adhesion in maintaining the coherence of tissue dynamics.
