Neutron Scattering of Multi-q Incommensurate Magnetism in Itinerant Metal Compounds
ORAL
Abstract
Recently, centrosymmetric lanthanide metals have been the subject of intense research due to the discovery of skyrmions in materials such as Gd2PdSi3, GdRu2Si2, Gd3Ru4Al12, EuAl4, and EuNiGe3. These fit within the broader rich field of incommensurate itinerant magnetism. Despite the ubiquity of itinerant magnets in everyday life, many questions remain about the precise mechanisms for stability. In the case of incommensurate order, there is much debate on the precise relationship between the magnetic order and the electronic structure, and the potential relevance of concepts such as nesting. In this talk, I will discuss the use of neutron scattering measurements to probe the magnetic structure of such incommensurate systems. In particular, I will discuss the unique capabilities of these probes to elucidate the underlying behavior of exotic magnetic order.
