Methods for simulating and correcting 2Q control pulses on long ion chains in the presence of many motional modes.

Abstract

Key to developing useful quantum computers are high fidelity gate operations. An important tool in the development of quantum computing devices is effective modeling of the expected fidelity. The use of long chains with all-to-all connectivity within the IonQ architectures presents an interesting challenge: How to efficiently model the quantum process of a two-qubit gate in the presence of a large number of motional modes. In this talk we will present a novel approach to this problem on the application of the Magnus expansion. In addition to providing a feasible method to simulate gate fidelities, this method is able to efficiently provide the full quantum channel, providing a much more detailed insight into the performance of our quantum operations.
