Hybrid Simulations of Nuclear Dynamics

Abstract

Quantum computers hold the promise to open a new era in simulating quantum many-body systems. This era will bring us a deeper and more complete understanding of the dynamics and responses of strongly interacting systems, such as atomic nuclei, and their interactions with other forms of matter. A hybrid digital/analog approach to quantum simulations, where the discrete quantum processor primitives are tailored to both the simulated system and the quantum processor performing the simulations, offers a pathway to predictions that can be realized on near-term platforms. We applied this approach to the simulation of the dynamics of protons and neutrons. I will show models of this approach and the result of simulations performed on DOE testbed platforms.
