CrystaLiZe: Dark Matter Detection and Beyond with Crystal Xenon

ORAL

Abstract

We present the crystal xenon time projection chamber (TPC), a novel particle detector technology that may be used as an upgrade to existing liquid xenon TPC dark matter experiments and as a standalone next-generation detector. Foundational tests have shown that solid xenon provides multiple benefits over liquid xenon, e.g., such as increased electron drift speed and exclusion of radon, the dominant background in current experiments, while maintaining the power of liquid xenon as a detection medium. These benefits offer the potential of greatly improved sensitivity in current and future dark matter experiments. We cover signal detection properties, radon exclusion, and current work on a multi-kg experiment to showcase scalability.
