Assessing Middle School Students' Understanding of Fundemental Quantum Computing and Programming Principles

Quantum computing is an emerging field that will likely affect the next generation of students. This study focuses on the Novi Middle School Coding Club which aims to introduce middle school students to the foundational concepts of computer programming and emerging applications such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing. During the 2024-2025 term, we are collecting data from the Novi Middle School Coding Club members regarding the effectiveness of our instructional practices. We do this by administering pre-tests and post-tests before and after our club meetings. The variables we are testing in this research will be the interest of the students, their motivation to pursue further studies in the field, the effectiveness of the teaching style, and the comprehension of the material.
