Rescaled ppE Parameters for Parameter Estimation Across PN Order
ORAL
Abstract
When looking at the inspiral portion of a binary black hole waveform for evidence of a beyond-GR signal, one strategy in parameter estimation pipelines is to use templates which model a waveform deformed at a fixed PN order. Depending on how the deformation is parameterized, a suitable prior for the amplitude of the deformation can be extremely sensitive to the PN order (e.g. in the parameterized post-Einsteinian formalism). We introduce a reparameterization of the waveform's inspiral phase deformation in which a fixed uniform prior can be used across the spectrum of PN orders. We perform injection tests demonstrating where this reparameterization may be beneficial, as well as show how the phase deformation in the merger regime may also be reparameterized.
