The Spallation Neutron Source Beam Test Facility
ORAL
Abstract
The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) Beam Test Facility (BTF) is a 2.5 MeV, 50 mA H- accelerator that reproduces conditions in the SNS linear accelerator front-end. The system consists of an H- ion source, short low-energy transport, 402.5 MHz RFQ and 10 meters of 2.5 MeV beamline. The BTF is currently contributing to SNS R&D efforts in several ways: diagnostics development, code benchmarking, ML/AI method testing, and beam dynamics studies focused on halo formation. The BTF is equipped with extensive and advanced phase space diagnostics. Current capabilities include measurement of the 6D beam distribution as well as high-dynamic-range imaging of phase space projections with 1 part-per-million sensitivity.
