Joint LArPix and LightPix Characterization in a LArTPC
ORAL
Abstract
LArPix and LightPix are complementary charge and light detection systems used for 3D imaging of particle interactions in multi-tonne liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs). The LArPix system is designed to detect the charge from ionization electrons via tiles of pixel sensors, while the LightPix system captures scintillation light through SiPM photon detectors, providing complementary data for reconstructing particle interactions. LArPix and LightPix are cryo-compatible, low power ASIC chip detectors developed at LBNL, each featuring 64 input channels. This work presents ongoing efforts to jointly characterize LArPix and LightPix systems, while optimizing both charge and light detection in a small-scale LArTPC setup. The system includes a cryostat housing the detector, a newly developed argon purifier to achieve ultra-pure argon, and the latest LArPix and LightPix readout chips. By refining the argon purification process and sensor calibration, we aim to enhance data quality, enabling a more detailed correlation between charge and light signals. I will further report on the findings of this initial testing and demonstrate the capabilities of the charge and light readout systems, along with their joint characterization. Larger scale implementation and potential applications in neutrino detectors in future DUNE experiments will also be discussed.
