Charged pion production at MicroBooNE

ORAL

Abstract

Interactions involving muons and pions are key probes of neutrino-nucleus interactions and are expected to dominate in the DUNE energy spectrum. Understanding the pion production modeling is crucial for reducing uncertainties in neutrino cross-sections, which directly impacts the precision of experiments like DUNE. By refining these models, we improve DUNE's ability to accurately measure neutrino oscillations and probe deeper into the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. In this talk we present new studies of neutrino-induced pion production on argon with the MicroBooNE detector. This includes a proposed new method focusing on final-state events, with the potential to be less sensitive to prior knowledge of the pion production mechanism, which can occur through coherent, baryon resonance, and deep inelastic channels.
