Testing the Standard Model at 0.37 ppm precision using the muon anomalous magnetic moment and lattice QCD

ORAL

Abstract

The Standard Model has been remarkably successful in describing subatomic phenomena for the past five decades. However, recent measurements of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment (aμ) show a notable deviation from the reference Standard Model's prediction, potentially pointing to new fundamental physics. I will present a lattice QCD calculation of the contribution that currently limits the precision of the Standard Model's prediction for aμ. Combing the result of this calculation with other known contributions leads to a theoretical prediction that differs from the current experimental world average by only 0.9 standard deviations, within a total uncertainty of 0.37 ppm.
