Gravitational-wave observations from ground-based detectors

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

We are in the era of gravitational-wave and multi-messenger astronomy. With hundreds of high-confidence gravitational-wave candidates publicly released by LIGO-KAGRA-Virgo, we are gaining unprecedented insights into neutron star and black hole mergers. These observations are transforming our knowledge across multiple scientific domains, including astrophysics, nuclear physics, cosmology, and gravity. In this talk, I will provide a summary of the key results to date, highlighting what we have been able to learn from these observations. I will further discuss what these observations mean for the future as the detectors gain sensitivity and also what can be inferred from sub-threshold gravitational-wave candidates.
