Are LVK’s black holes feeding on their surrounding interstellar and dark matter medium?
ORAL
Abstract
I will discuss the impact of surrounding environments on the properties and dynamics of binary black holes (BBHs) observed by the current LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) detectors and the upcoming LISA detector. Assuming this environment may consist of either a baryonic interstellar or dark matter medium, I will show how the presence of such a medium can influence BBH dynamics, with effects scaling with the black hole mass. Such a medium also acts as a source of orbital hardening, thus resulting in more efficient BBH mergers.
