The Future History of Supersymmetry: Fundamentals and New Directions

ORAL

Abstract

Supersymmetry, the theoretical framework explaining the symmetric relation between bosons and fermions, has long been one of the loftiest yet most infamous creations to come out of Theoretical Physics. SUSY, despite it's beautiful mathematical and theoretical framework has yet to be verified experimentally and as such, lays within the millieu of theoretical frameworks propogated by physicists that has yet to find widespread acceptance. This talk will trace the history of the theory from it's residual origins in the likes of quantum scattering to the actual laying of the groundwork upon which it became a distinguished field of inquiry. Special emphasis will be placed upon the developments in Physics that were integral contingents to Supersymmetry's formulation and the philosophical ramifications that each developmental postulation presented; a quasi-philosophical investigation. The talk will then culminate in addressing where the future of this theory lies, whether it will be cast into the shadows like String Theory or if there are potentialities for further serious reserach. Despite the fierce contemporary debates that our idols, mentors and professors are in now regarding certain areas of Theoretical Physics, us young physicists have an obligation to study and learn said theories wholeheartedly, for the future of the field rests on our shoulders; entrusted to us through a sincere appreciation for all historic phenomena -hence 'the Future History'.
