The Payload for Ultrahigh Energy Observations (PUEO)

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

The Payload for Ultrahigh Energy Observations (PUEO) is a NASA Pioneers Long Duration Ballon Mission, scheduled for launch in December 2025. PUEO aims to detect radio signals from ultra-high energy neutrino interactions in the Antarctic ice, as well as from tau-neutrino-induced air showers and cosmic ray air showers. PUEO will have world-leading sensitivity to the highest energy neutrinos. PUEO relies heavily on heritage from the ANITA mission, and implements a phased array trigger, real-time digital filtering, and doubles the number of channels compared to ANITA to achieve an order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity over ANITA. I will discuss PUEO's science goals, the PUEO instrument, and the mission status.
