Moving the Needle: Inclusion and Ethics in Astrophysics and the AP
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
The American Physical Society has taken the position that "Guided by our mission, vision, and values, APS strives to model truth, integrity, and respect within the physics community." In the last several years, APS has taken significant strides to articulate, elevate, and effectuate a set of ethical standards for its members, meetings and activities, and operations. The progress made in 2024 on codifying and implementing these standards has been transformative, thanks in large part to the concerted and collective effort of the APS Ethics Committee, the APS Board (which it advises), the Head of Ethics, and APS leadership, In this talk, we describe this ethical framework and its role in positioning APS as a leader in scientific ethical practices.
