The search for Majorana neutrinos

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

Are neutrinos their own antiparticles? Present and future experimental searches for neutrinoless double beta decay seek to answer the question of whether B-L symmetry is conserved and, if so, to measure the neutrino Majorana mass. Present experiments are entering an age of unprecedented sensitivity, soon reaching >1027 years half-life discovery sensitivity, and future experiments aim to reach >1028 years discovery sensitivity, with a goal of covering the inverted neutrino mass-ordering hierarchy in several isotopes. Current experimental progress will be discussed, highlighting new results from LEGEND with 76Ge and KamLAND-Zen with 136Xe, as well as exciting developments for the next generation of experiments.
