Designing and production of GEM modules for the MOLLER experiment

Abstract
The upcoming MOLLER experiment at Jefferson Lab will enhance sensitivity of the parity-violating asymmetry measurements by scattering longitudinally polarized electrons off un-polarized electrons in a high power liquid Hydrogen target, in the search for new physics beyond the standard model. For spectrometer calibration and background measurements, Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors will be utilized in this experiment. The total 28 GEM modules required for the experiment are being built by Stony Brook University and University of Virginia in collaboration. The design and fabrication of fully functional prototype GEM detector modules were successfully completed by both the participating universities. The prototypes went under extensive studies using X-ray and cosmic-ray particles and CERN testbeam. The fabrication process and the preliminary test results at Stony Brook University will be presented in this talk.
