An All-Sky Search for Continuous Gravitational Waves in the LIGO O4a Data Set
ORAL
Abstract
The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration searches for gravitational waves coming from not just compact binary coalescences but also continuous gravitational waves emitted from rapidly spinning, non-axisymmetric neutron stars within our galaxy. Conducting all-sky searches for such radiation from previously unknown neutron stars requires long data sets and presents significant computational challenges, leading to the development of multiple approaches. In this work, we outline the use of the well-established PowerFlux program, including loose coherence for outlier follow-up, to perform an all-sky search in the first eight months of LIGO's O4 data (O4a). The status of the search will be presented.
