Changing the landscape through "Rare Connections"
ORAL
Abstract
Storytelling can be one exceptionally powerful way for fostering a thriving environment in our physics community. Physicists at various career stages sharing their journeys, experiences, stories, and perspectives, allows for a greater connectivity of everyone in the field, enhancing their sense of belonging. "Rare Connections" is a documentary film made at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University. The film deconstructs some stereotypes while highlighting that there is not one way to become and to be a scientist and a mentor. As the physicist filmmaker I will discuss and show film vignettes with voices form a diverse group of people, with aims of supporting a more fair representation and a sense of belonging in the development of the workforce.
