Extremal black hole formation as a critical phenomenon

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

In this talk, I will present a proof that extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes arise on the critical threshold between dispersion and gravitational collapse in the Einstein-Maxwell-charged Vlasov model. This constitutes the first rigorous result on the black hole formation threshold in general relativity. This talk will be based on 2402.10190, which is joint work with Christoph Kehle (MIT).
