Electron Drift Demonstrator for the PTOLEMY Experiment
ORAL
Abstract
We present the results of a toy setup to demonstrate precise control of electron drift speed and trajectory for the PTOLEMY experiment. The use of ExB drift to control electron motion is an integral component of the PTOLEMY Collaboration’s proposed electromagnetic filter and radiofrequency (RF) detection system. Using a custom-built electrode cage and 0.3 Tesla magnet, we characterize the effects of tuning voltage potential lines and drift speed on electrons emitted from Carbon-14. Techniques employed in this setup can be used to study the activity profile of a radioactive source.
