Principal- and off-Hugoniot measurements of gold
ORAL
Abstract
We measure the shock equation of state of full-density (19.32 g/cm3) and 70%-nanoporous (5.80 g/cm3) gold up to 1100 and 700 GPa, respectively, on Omega laser facility. The nanoporous gold samples are prepared by chemically removing the silver from a Ag0.7Au0.3 alloy. Line-imaging velocimetry measurements provide shock velocities in Au sample and quartz standard. Shock pressure-density states of the full-density and nanoporous golds are obtained, after correcting for shock unsteadiness, by impedance matching with quartz. The experimental data are compared with tabulated equation of state models, LEOS 790 and SESAME 2700.
