A statistical consideration and comparison of cylinder test data
ORAL
Abstract
Over the last decade, cylinder tests have moved from using the traditional electrical and optical diagnostics to laser-based velocimetry. This move has led to both a significant increase in the amount of data produced, and the amount of information contained within it. Here we look in detail at the shape and features present in these data and how best to identify them. These features are used to investigate the limits of this data. We applied this method to a large data set on the same explosive to establish the variations within a single experiment, across multiple experiments in the same series and finally, between experiments in different series. Using this, we identified the limitations in the accuracy of the data and commented on the smallest deviation that could reliably be measured for each using the extant experimental design.
