Building LabVIEW Code for Instrument Control and Data Acquisition and Analysis with a Penning Ion Trap
POSTER
Abstract
For several decades we have conducted atomic and molecular photodetachment spectroscopy using a Penning ion trap. Over this time the process of controlling the ion trap and acquiring data has evolved considerably. During the last 16 months, we have completely rewritten the LabVIEW code previously used, adding numerous features and functionality. These major advancements enhance the instrument automation and data analysis, and allow us to perform tests and experiments previously unavailable. We share preliminary results from ion cyclotron resonance tests which allow us to confirm the species of ions trapped.
