Electromagnetic Calorimetry in a Future Muon Collider
ORAL
Abstract
The global particle physics community is assessing the feasibility of designing and building a muon collider. As a part of this effort, some groups are using computational models to investigate how best to design a detector apparatus for such a collider at a 10TeV center-of-mass energy. One of the main challenges facing the development of such a collider is beam-induced-background (BIB), which would arise from undesirable in-beam decays of low-lifetime muons. To address this challenge, we have used simulations to characterize BIB as compared to signal particles, and aim to develop methods for isolating signal from background in the electromagnetic calorimeter.
