Equation of state and sound speed measurements of Ti6Al4V and pure titanium
ORAL
Abstract
This presentation will present a short series of experiments will look at the shock wave and sound velocity measurements of pure titanium and the commonly used titanium alloy of Ti6Al4V. From the wave profiles, there appears to be a reverse phase change within titanium not observed in the Ti6Al4V. The range in pressure where the EOS for the two materials was measured is between 50-130 GPa. At the highest pressure measured the sound speed is nearly identical for the alloy and the pure material. The experimental results will be used in further constraining the equation of state for both materials.
